New Jenni Rivera Album, Tribute Concert Slated for December
Plans to celebrate regional Mexican singer Jenni Rivera with a new album and a tribute concert are under way one year after the singer died while working in Mexico.
As previously reported in Billboard, Universal Music Latin Entertainment/Fonovisa is releasing a CD/DVD that will feature the entertainer. Additionally, a live show in Mexico, produced by the Rivera family, will feature celebrity performances.
"For our family, it’s a pleasure sharing this treasure with fans of our mother, daughter and sister," Rosie Rivera, Jenni's sister, said. "This effort has brought us tears and made us proud and now it gives us much happiness to continue with the company that worked with Jenni in other large projects. In honor and tradition to what Jenni Rivera is, we remain loyal to those whom have been loyal to her."
The new live album is scheduled to go on sale Dec. 3, and will feature music from Rivera's concert at Arena Monterrey, which took place in 2012, a few hours before the singer and her entourage boarded a small plane that crashed minutes after take off. on Dec. 9. There were no survivors.
Next month, on Dec. 9., fans in Mexico will have the opportunity to attend a show that will celebrate Rivera. The "Jenni Rivera Lives" tribute will feature a host of celebrities such as Tito el Bambino and Marisela.
During an exclusive interview with Billboard in October for a cover story on Jenni, Rosie Rivera said that the family reached out to her sister's favorite artists and that many of them immediately signed on to be part of the upcoming Monterrey concert.
The Rivera family is also scheduled to be in attendance, including Jenni's daughter, Chiquis, who will sing music that made her mother famous.
