Remembering Jenni Rivera: Video Tribute to the Diva of Banda Music

Regional Mexican singer Jenni Rivera, who died one year ago on Dec. 9 in a plane crash while working in Mexico, is being remembered in tributes for her contributions to music. In a recent Billboard cover story, the singer's family, friends and colleagues spoke about the singer's legacy as an entertainer who fought hard to succeed in the music industry.

At the recent Billboard Mexican Music Awards in Los Angeles, the world was reminded of Rivera's talent. She posthumously took home seven honors that night including artist of the year; artist of the year, female; digital download artist of the year; albums artist of the year and Banda artist of the year.

"La Misma Grand Señora" (Fonovisa/UMLE), which was released in the U.S. a week after her death, won album of the year and Banda album of the year.

It was during that same night that many stars in regional Mexican music remembered Rivera as someone who was known for her strong work ethic and her sassy personality, always determined to stay true to herself.

"I think Jenni had a great career and that's something that deserves respect," says Mexican singer Nena Guzman. "For all women she's a great example.”

L.A.-based rapper Becky G echoes those sentiments: “She stood for her morals and what she believed in. She's one of my idols."

Rivera, who has continued climbing the Billboard charts, becoming a major name in entertainment came with many sacrifices that inspired those around her.

"She will be very missed," says singer/songwriter Regulo Carlo. "I know she'll be a great influence for all the women out there who want to be a singer like her."
